La Fortuna, Costa Rica: The Heart of the Rainforest

Our trip to Costa Rica wasn’t the typical beach getaway that most people envision. Instead of the pristine waters of the Caribbean or Pacific coasts, we ventured deep into the lush green rainforest of La Fortuna. Planted in the steep forested hills, this destination offered a raw, untouched beauty. The seemingly endless rain, instead of being a hindrance, accentuated the vibrant greens and misty atmosphere.

A few hours’ drive from the San Jose airport, the winding roads through Costa Rica’s hills provided a slow, scenic route that allowed us to fully take in our surroundings. When we arrived at the hotel, one view dominated everything else: the towering Arenal Volcano right outside our window. With clouds gracefully wrapping around its peak, the view was nothing short of mesmerizing. I knew then that my camera was about to capture some truly unforgettable scenes, showcasing the breathtaking blend of volcanic majesty and rainforest serenity.

Arenal Volcano

The Arenal Volcano, located in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, is one of the country’s most iconic landmarks. Standing at over 5,300 feet, it was dormant for centuries until a massive eruption in 1968, which devastated nearby villages and reshaped the landscape. Following the event, Arenal remained one of the most active volcanoes in the world, consistently producing lava flows and ash columns, until it entered a resting phase in 2010. Today, while largely inactive, the volcano remains a major attraction, drawing visitors for its stunning presence and lush rainforest that surrounds it.
